LaKesha Womack relocated her business, Womack Consulting Group, to Charlotte in November of 2016. After searching the internet for networking and professional seminars/workshops to attend, she grew tired of venturing from site to site trying to piece together a weekly schedule of events. After speaking with other area professionals who were experiencing similar issues, Womack launched #cltblkbiz to serve as an event directory for black business professionals. When asked why she chose to focus on black professionals, Womack commented, "many black business owners are not successful because there is a lack of access to the resources and trainings designed to help them start and grow successful businesses. My goal is to create a platform that saves time by aggregating the information into one location and helps to connect the professionals with the events as well as other professionals. Ecnomic empowerment is a vital to the growth of the black community."
Currently, the platform allows users to submit event details at no cost while charging a nominal fee for press releases, email blasts, and event pages. There is also a business directory being developed to help users connect with business services.
